Things to See and Do in Bowral

  • The town has long been a favorite destination for locals and tourists alike due to its mix of rural charm and modern conveniences.  Bowral’s beautiful private gardens are not to be missed and from the end of September to early October, it is “Tulip Time”. The Bowral Tulip Festival is located at Corbett Gardens on the corner of Merrigang and Bendooley Streets, and is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this year.  Some of Australia's most beautiful private gardens are open to the public during “Tulip Time”.
  • Bowral has many antique & craft and antique shops where visitors can purchase and take home a few treasures. Plus there are an impressive variety of fashion boutiques and bookstores. Of course there are also supermarkets and shopping malls, and its many restaurants and sidewalk cafes are famous for their fine foods.  Close to town, there are a number of vineyards and wineries are also available for a visit.
  • Sports fans can't miss a visit to the Museum of Cricket at the Bradman Oval, where you will learn all about Australia's most famous cricketer.  There is also fly fishing on the lake and excellent greens available for the golf enthusiast.  If horses are your thing, be sure to take in some of the many equestrian events locally, which offer polo, polocrosse and dressage events.
  • Another popular visitor attraction is Mount Gibraltar where short hikes to the various look-outs are scheduled daily.  Mount Gibraltar is located in Bowral and maps to the attraction are available from the Visitors Information Centre in Mittagong.
  • Located in Milton Park’s beautiful historic gardens, the Milton Park Country House Hotel & Spa boasts luxury, grandeur and relaxation.  The spa has highly trained massage therapists and was created for the purpose of enhancing wellbeing by restoring and revitalising the mind, body and soul.
  • Be sure to visit the Bradman Museum and Bradman Walk. There is a Village market every month and you will be charmed by the grand country houses, 19th century cottages and other historic buildings.
  • The running of the Bong Bong Picnic Cup usually takes place on the second Wednesday in November. The annual meeting and race is conducted at the Club’s wholly owned 88 acre racecourse and is open to members and invited guests.   The racecourse is located at “Wyeera” on Kangaloon Road, Glenquarry which is sometimes referred to as East Bowral.
  • Kids can take advantage of numerous cinemas as well as playgrounds, parks and sports fields in the area.  Cycling paths wend their way from the middle of town through and past East Bowral and there is a good long trail for both bikes and walkers alongside the Wingecarribee River.
